Daily Market Commentary for September 10, 2008

Eve of Destruction

After the heavy trading losses realized yesterday, the markets made a rebound today, with moderate gains across the board. The markets shrugged off heavy losses reported by Lehman Brothers Holdings Incorporated (NYSE: LEH), which consisted of a phenomenal amount of $4 Billion and fought for gains in all sectors but the financial sector which continues its struggle for existence. Trading volume was moderate and trading activity was strained after the beating the markets took yesterday. Trading activity may be rather muted tomorrow as many traders remain moved from the markets to participate in the remembrance ceremonies for 9-11-01.

Today is the eve of the most horrific attacks felt on American soil which occurred seven years ago on 9-11-01. We, as all Americans will face tomorrow with the same grim reminders of that day, that changed the world forever, as we all once knew it. Tears will be shed by many, in the same manner on that awful day. In New York, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA, remembrance ceremonies will be held for the innocent victims, from around the world, of the attacks. These words will go on into eternity - Never Forget.

The trading community is asked to refrain from trading for a moment of silence at 10:29 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. (representing the fall of the North Tower) tomorrow. In addition, a commemorative message will be broadcast on the NASDAQ MarketSite / NASDAQ Tower 4 Times Square (corner of 43rd and Broadway) New York, NY 10036 during that time as well as, throughout the day tomorrow. Representatives from the September 11th Families' Association and Tribute WTC Visitor Center will preside over the opening bell and representatives from USS New York Commissioning Committee will preside over the closing bell in commemoration of September 11th.
